Eric Wentzel

Eric has been part of the KEY Swim Team since 1998 and began his role as Head Coach in September of 2006. A former YMCA swimmer himself, Eric is a graduate of Wright State University where he was also a member of the WSU Swim Team. He also spent time coaching Valley View High School for 3 year and just this past summer coached Club Marinole in the GDSA Summer League. Eric was chosen by his peers as the Southwest Ohio YMCA Coach of the Year in 2007. Eric is currently certified Level 4 through the American Swimming Coaches Association. He currently lives in Kettering with his wife and two children.

Lauren Penrod

Lauren joined the KEY coaching staff in April of 2008. She has swam competitively for 19 years. Swimming for the University of Evansville as well as the Arcanum Swim Team, the Miami County YMCA and Darke County YMCA. She coached the Arcanum Swim Team for 3 years and the Darke County YMCA swim team for 1. Lauren currently lives in Arcanum.

Swam for Miami County YMCA while growing up and then 1 year at Ashland University before coming to Kettering to pursue a nursing degree. She has taught swim lessons at the South YMCA for 2 years before joining the KEY coaching staff.

Amanda Stier

Amanda joined the KEY coaching staff in June of 2009. She grew up swimming for the Coffman YMCA and swam for Alter High School. She continued her swimming career at Depauw specializing in the butterfly events and sprint freestyle. She will be starting Graduate School at the University of Dayton in fall 2009.

Tony Taphorn

Tony joined the KEY coaching staff in the fall of 2008. He grew up swimming at the Blue Ash YMCA and swam for St. Xavier High School where he was a district champion in the 500 freestyle, and state champion  on the 400 Free Relay his senior year. He continued his swimming career at Wright State University specializing in distance freestyle and was part of 2 conference championship teams. Tony carried on at Wright State for 3 years as an assistant and graduate assistant with the Swimming and Diving program. He graduated from Wright State with a Mechanical Engineering Degree and currently lives in Kettering with his wife and two children.

Mary Taylor

Swam competitively for 11 years and started year-round with Key Swimming when she was 10 - it has come full circle.  A graduate of Bowling Green State University and currently lives in Kettering.
